About us

Epicentre is an association that was created in 1986 by MSF to provide epidemiological expertise to underpin MSF operations. Epicentre is part of the MSF movement and largely funded by MSF, but also has the liberty to pursue other projects that are aligned with Epicentre’s mission.

Mission

Epicentre conducts research and training in support of MSF’s goal of providing medical aid in areas where people are affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters, or are otherwise excluded from health care.

In this context Epicentre focusses on:

  • Research to promote innovative operational projects
  • Research establish and improve appropriate medical recommendations
  • Research to analyze operational interventions
  • Evidence from field-based science to support MSF’s advocacy positions
  • Training of MSF staff and other humanitarian workers to provide an effective epidemiological response in difficult settings

Funding

Apart from MSF, recent and current Epicentre funders are as follows: Action contre la Faim, ALIMA, ANRS, DNDi, Kavlifondet, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Save the Children Fund, Sidaction,WHO, UnitAid.
