Epidemiology and Population Health
The Department of Epidemiology and Population Health seeks to identify the key determinants of health, disease and death in the populations that MSF serves for the purposes of prevention and control at the population level. The work of the department provides much of the information necessary to develop, implement and improve our public health interventions.
The scope of the department is wide, with key axes concerning:
- Vaccine preventable diseases
- Diarrheal diseases
- Mental health
- Packages of interventions aiming to reduce morbidity and mortality, with a particular focus on children under the age of 5
Within Epicentre, the Department serves as a conduit to encourage further research and questioning stemming from rapid epidemiological interventions in both the Field Epidemiology and Training Departments and transversally with the Department of Clinical Research. The Department also supervises Epicentre’s Centre de Recherche in Niger.
