Treatment of serious bacterial infections caused by confirmed carbapenemase-producing Gram-negative bacteria in hospitalized patients in MSF-supported hospitals
Study design
Retrospective and prospective descriptive study
Context
MSF has validated the introduction of novel AB to treat confirmed carbapenemase-producing Gram-negative bacteria (CP-GNB) infected patients, without other therapeutical alternatives. NG-Test Carba 5 RDT may be an acceptable and rapid diagnostic tool to confirm and differentiate carbapenemases if it shows good clinical performance and usability in a retrospective evaluation in MSF laboratories.
Before the introduction of novel AB against CP-GNB, MSF needs to gather clinical information on targeted patients and local settings in order to guide the introduction of novel AB and refine the stewardship procedures (including diagnostic and IPC procedures).
A baseline assessment will describe the potential target population, current outcomes, local CP-GNB epidemiology along with implementation of laboratory procedures for CP-GNB confirmation and susceptibility testing to novel agents, as well as assessing access and supply constraints for novel ABs in selected countries.
Objectives
- Describe the patients diagnosed with serious bacterial infections caused by an CP-GNB (target population for novel AB): clinical and therapeutical data, safety of used AB (e.g. colistine) and outcomes
- Describe CP-GNB, resistance patterns (including antimicrobial

Methodology
Retrospective and prospective descriptive study. Collection of clinical and therapeutical data from the medical files (or EMR/Praxis) of the patients confirmed with CP-GNB and collection of microbiology data
