Epicentre, an MSF Satellite dedicated to epidemiology and research

Epicentre is a non-profit organization created by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in 1986 to provide epidemiological expertise in evaluation, research and training programs, mainly in support of MSF operations. Epicentre acts where populations are affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters, or are excluded from health care. Epicentre has 3 research centers - Paris (France), Mbarara (Uganda) and Maradi (Niger), teams of epidemiologists in the field - Mali, DRC, Malawi, Chad, South Sudan, Niger, Uganda - teams delocalized in New York, Dubai, Dakar, Geneva, Brussels, London, Cape Town, a Research Department and an Epidemiology Intervention and Training Department.

Collaborating allows us to strengthen our expertise but also to explore new medical and scientific fields, such as the late-stage development of vaccines or treatments relevant to MSF medical teams. Partnerships facilitate the application of advances and their transfer to beneficiary populations. They can take many forms, ranging from informal consultations to networking and even the leadership of a multi-country, multi-partner consortium. This cross-fertilization and the resulting enrichment ensure that we can respond quickly to the needs of patients and populations in our areas of intervention.
