Published in The Lancet Infectious Diseases, a study has revealed that 10 days after vaccination, the risk of developing Ebola is reduced by 84 per cent in vaccinated people compared to non-vaccinated people. As part of an observational study during the Ebola epidemic in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) between 2018 and 2020, Epicentre and other research organizations evaluated the effectiveness of the only Ebola vaccine recommended for people at high risk of contracting the disease during epidemics.

Launched in 2021 and funded by Wellcome, UK AID and the Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office, a study is assessing the impact of preventive cholera vaccination campaigns in the Democratic Republic of Congo, targeting high-risk areas. Thanks to the support of Wellcome, this research is now entering its second phase, aimed at measuring vaccine effectiveness and optimising the vaccination strategies deployed.
